Tin Can Lantern

Tin can lanterns make a very versatile craft project for Cub Scouts. You can make the holes in any pattern you like – a star for Christmas, a snowflake for winter, a ghost for Halloween, a heart for Valentine’s day.


Tin Can Lanterns

Task

Make a lantern from an old food tin can

Resources
  • Tin Can
  • Permanent Marker
  • Hammer & Nail
  • Protective Eye Gear
  • Tea Light or Battery Candle
  • Pipe Cleaner / String or Wire
Instructions
  1. Wash your tin can and remove any sharp edges – Be Careful
  2. Draw on your design
  3. Lay the can down with your picture facing up
  4. Using your hammer and nail make a hole through each dot on your picture
  5. Make Holes for carry handle strap
  6. Feed through the Pipe Cleaner
  7. Put your tealight inside your can to see your picture lit up
