Date: 25th Nov 2017 Author: Scout Websites

As you will already know, Somerset County are now planning for the 24th World Scout Jamboree. This will be held in West Virginia, USA. The camp dates are from 22nd July – 2nd August 2019; the travel dates are yet to be confirmed and will extend around this. Somerset will be sending one ‘Unit’ to WSJ 2019 which will include 27 Somerset Explorer Scouts and 9 Wiltshire Explorer Scouts.

Participants must be of Explorer Scout age (14 – 18) at the time of the Jamboree. Those who wish to apply to participate must therefore be born between 22nd July 2001 and 21st July 2005. Currently this will include young people in Scout Troops and Explorer Scout Units.

We are now accepting applications from youth members who wish to be considered for a place in our Unit. If you are interested in representing Somerset County Scouts in the USA in 2019, you will need to attend a selection day at Huish Woods Scout campsite (near Taunton). You will be sent an email to advise you which day you should attend.

Selection days are: 24th February 2018 & 25th February 2018

You will need to arrive at Huish Woods at 9.30am. Bring a packed lunch, drinks & snacks for the day. You will need to arrive in full, smart uniform and have at least one change of clothes. The day will be spent mostly outdoors and you will be undertaking various activities, so please bring sufficient suitable clothing, waterproofs and footwear in a named bag. You will be ready to be collected at 4.00pm.

Those who wish to attend must complete and submit the following by January 14th 2018:

WSJ 2019 youth application form – WSJ-2019 youth selection application form

WSJ 2019 youth selection day health and permission form – WSJ-2019 Youth Selection Health Form

A cheque for £5 (made payable to Somerset County Scouts Council) – WSJ-2019 youth selection applications invitation

Send these to: WSJ 2019, 2 Crown Lane, Creech Heathfield, Taunton TA3 5EU

Your place (and all further correspondence) will be confirmed by email. We will require a parent / guardian’s email address for this purpose.

Some of those who attend for the initial day will then be invited to spend a weekend at Huish Woods Scout campsite. This will be held on 17th – 18th March 2018.
